5 Reasons Gen X is Cool with Gen Y….

I’m Gen X and I approved this messageEddievedder_2

I like Gen Y types and think the hype about how they are different is overplayed.  Among the reasons I’m  cool with Gen Y as a member of Kurt Cobain Nation:

1.  I’m young enough to remember how clueless I was…

2.  Somebody’s got to do the work…

3.  Like Gen X, Gen Y is going to start having kids…

See the rest of my reasons and notes in an article I have up at Workforce.com

  1. Good article KD. You can pretty much sort out what generation you are in by how quickly you identify the man in the picture on this post. My time, .0037 seconds.
    Kneelin’, looking through the paper though he doesn’t know to read, ooh yeah
    Oh, prayin’, now to something that has never showed him anything
    Oh, feelin’, understands the weather of the winters on its way
    Oh, ceilings, few and far between all the legal halls of shame, yeah
    I am Gen X and proud.

    like the article. agreed – a lot of it is hype driven by the media and consultants. i can’t wait to see what the next generation is labeled though and what traits we riff on them for.
    by the way, who is that in the picture? lol.

    i’m more of a sap and have to go with something off of vitology-

  5. Oh man is this a stroll down memory lane. Most of those memories awash in ripped jeans, plaid shirts, angst and bad beer choices.
    Vitology was a great album – err – cd – err, whatevetr the kids call it today. For my money it has to be Ten.
    I have to throw in more lyrics…can’t help myself.
    Sheets of empty canvas
    Untouched sheets of clay
    Were laid spread out before me
    As her body once did
    All five horizons
    Revolved around her soul
    As the earth to the sun
    Now the air I tasted and breathed
    Has taken a turn
    Ooh and all I taught her was everything
    Ooh I know she gave me all that she wore
    And now my bitter hands
    Chafe beneath the clouds
    Of what was everything
    Oh the pictures have
    All been washed in black
    Tattooed everything

    KD – totally agree with you about the overblown “issues” with Gen Y entering the workforce. It always amazes me that those who are most in fear of Gen Y in the workplace are… they’re parents! Most Gen Xers I meet are like you – unfazed by the entrance of Gen Y into the workplace. It’s their parents – the Boomers – who have no idea how to handle them.
    I will swllow poison, ’till I grow immune;
    I will scream my lungs out, ’till it fills this room;
    How much difference, does it make
