FOTv is back, and in this episode KD, JLee and Tim Sackett are breaking down the Monster.com acquisition of Yahoo HotJobs, with nuggets related to the following:
- Should HR and Recruiting pros care about the death of HotJobs?
- How to know if you suck…
- Are big job boards dead?
- Why JLee watches Jersey Shore..
- What’s the next acquisition for Monster or CareerBuilder?
- Why Tim Sackett is a proponent of Soccer Moms.
Only at FOT can you weave “The Situation”, inappropriate t-shirts and job boards. Hit us in the comments and tell us what you think…

Yeowwwza! Great spot!
a) First of all—if you don’t know who Snookie is—then you need to put down the starsky and hutch reruns and plug into the now…..
b) Totally agreed—Careerbuilder DOES have the best party, hands down, at SHRM conferences. If the Monster/ Hotjob merger can up-the-ante on the party wars—then I’m all for it.
c) I agree with KD. A mix of authentic recruiting and jobboarding is the best mix. Come on guys—To say that job boards are totally irrelevant or that if you use them you are a loser—is a bit naive. Many, many, many rank and file recruiters don’t have the people, talent, time resources to simply start a pipeline from scratch. Especially if your whole recruiting team has just been cut. Yea–I said it.
However….for those who are too are a)too uninformed or b) to lazy to try anything else. Shame on you.
d) My two big boy sources for MailSouth (below referals) are Careerbuilder and LinkedIn Recruiting. So–you would think I would be all for these two pulling together. however, Staying apart may make them more competitive and even better. I kinda like really knowing my actives from my passives—
two different strategies—-
I love hot soccer moms? I want a t-shirt like that for Scrubby.
This was a great episode

@Kris_Dunn on the Monster | Hot Jobs acquisition: “Hot Jobs didn’t work.”
[LOL, awesome
@TimSackett on recruiters who suck: “If you’re a recruiter and you need a big, giant, resume database from Monster, you suck.”
[Preach it, Brother!]
@Jessica_Lee on paying fees to lazy TPRs’ that troll job boards and expect to get Clients to pay a fee: “… I would never want to do that, over my dead body!”
[Seriously, I hope Job-Board Scrubbers/Trollers have went back into selling Real Estate, B2B Telecom, or perhaps Used Cars.]
I think Career Builder is better than Monster, But I must say neither of them are worth the time and effort as in my case I have had job offers, but they are all generic work from home craps that promise you the moon, but what they really want is your money to buy into their scheme and re-sell it, I personally hate these scams, also on the horizon of jobs offered are these independent insurance companies or so called top insurance marketers who are looking for the golden egg of a salesman. I use to sell part time I did however out perform all other part time sales and most of the full time sales force in 1 quarter, (Term Life policies) so Insurance companies see that on my resume and send me this BS wanting to recruit me. So with this being said, Career builder, Hotjobs ie… Monster are just NOT working, I haven’t had trouble finding a job, I currently have a job and I am looking for a better one, I am honest and do Not appreciate all the scam artist who try to get me to pay for Nothing so I can sell their idea of some pyramid scheme, I am looking for a Leadership role or Supervisory type job as I have been placed as Leadman, Shop Foreman, or just the go to person at every job I have had in the past 20 yrs, I have 20+yrs Tool & Die & 10+yrs maintenance in the Memphis Area, I feel I have earned the respect of my co-workers by doing whats right to the best of my ability. I will keep with my search in hopes of finding that Dream Job. It just seems to me there is no more room in this world for a honest man.
I hope FOT can really grow to be a better job search/post site.
Good Luck!
If you actually had to use HotJobs you would agree with the hundreds of users who have posted comments on the HotJobs Suggestion Board: HotJobs SUCKS!
All any prospective buyer of HotJobs has to do is view the comments on the HotJobs Suggestion Board and that would deter them from buying it. They would be able to tell right away that they would have to do a long and costly repair job on this train wreck in order to rebuild HotJob’s lost credibility.
And what makes matters worse is that concerned HotJobs users have spoon-fed YAHOO everything they needed to do to clean up this stinking cesspool and still nothing got corrected. In fact it got worse, probably because no one at HotJobs cares anymore. There appears to be absolutely no quality control over the job postings.
The major complaints against HotJobs can be summarized as follows:
•The site is loaded with phony jobs, spammers, scammers, phishing, personal information capture trolls, and fraud.
•Inability of users to delete a profile. Ever.
•Many many broken features
•Inability of HotJobs to take corrective action even when the problem is specifically pointed out to them.
•“Canned” responses from HotJobs staff.
Good luck Monster. SUCKERS. You just wasted $225 million buying this sewer.
