Amazon.com Inc Chief Executive Jeff Bezos launched a recruiting drive on the front page of the company’s website on Monday as the largest Internet retailer seeks staff for its vast and expanding network of warehouses.
Bezos unveiled the Amazon Career Choice Program, which will pay up to $8,000 over four years for employees to take technical and vocational courses in high-demand areas including engineering, information technology, transportation and accounting. I feel like Reuters has the headline wrong. I don’t think this is recruiting–I think it’s Bezos’ statement on “look what Amazon is doing to help the economy.” There’s no link to their careers site and no evidence of employer brand. The statement didn’t even have seem to have been written by PR or edited. It was long with no call to action. I appreciate that it’s on the front page, but if I was managing their employer brand or leading talent acquisition I’d be pretty unhappy.
