Okay, I’m super excited to announce the newest sponsor to the FOT lineup, Canvas!
So, who and what the heck is Canvas?
I’m glad you hypothetically asked! Canvas is a dynamic talent acquisition technology that was just launched in 2017 out of Indianapolis. I like mentioning they are out of Indianapolis because I think it makes a difference. Great tech comes from Silicon Valley, we already know that. I like tech that doesn’t come from the valley, because I find that those companies are more focused on tech that people will actually use!
It’s our Midwestern roots! We don’t care about the number of users and our valuation, we care that we made something that actually works and people will want to use, and the first time I demoed Canvas, that was the feeling I had! Holy crap, recruiters are going to eat this up! And they have been! Canvas is growing like crazy.
Canvas is a text-based screening and interviewing platform that allows recruiters to screen multiple candidates at once. Canvas has also integrated artificial intelligence into the platform that will automatically assist recruiters in quickly answering certain questions that candidates ask frequently.
I’ve been on this bandwagon now for about 24 months! If you are not leveraging text communication in your text stack, you are already behind and you’re going to fall further behind! And when I say you should have ‘texting’ in your TA tech stack, that doesn’t mean Gina with her iPhone texting candidates from her personal account!
The team at Canvas sees the world in a very similar way that we see the world here at FOT, and that makes me happy! Can’t wait to work with them in developing great content, both written and the upcoming Recruiter Confessions Podcast that you’ll be able to find on the Fistful of Talent podcast network!
Recruiter Confessions will bring in some of the brightest recruiting minds on the planet and we’ll swap recruiting war stories, our craziest candidates, and what are the hottest tips and tricks recruiters are using right now to uncover the best talent. Of course, I’ll be your hostess with the mostest, and each month I’ll have an awesome recruiter riding shotgun with me!
So, what do you need to do?
Pretty simple, go check Canvas out and if you, like most TA shops on the planet right now, aren’t using an integrated texting platform to recruit, do a demo with Canvas and see if they are right for you.
FOT Note: We here at FOT like to think we get talent and HR at a different level. At the very least, we are probably going to have a different take than the norm. So it made perfect sense to ask Canvas to be an annual sponsor at FOT, where they’ll sponsor posts like this one, allowing FOT contributors to write, without restriction, on all things related to using new and innovative ideas in recruiting, like using text messaging to interview candidates. If you find yourself thinking, “Hey, I should really look into Canvas!” then go do it, I think you’ll love the technology!
If you Google “Tim Sackett” you’ll find our Tim, and a truck driver chaplain. Our Tim is NOT the truck driver chaplain, although how awesome would that be if he was!? He is a prolific writer in the HR and TA space who just happens to also run an Engineering and IT contract staffing agency (HRU Technical Resources) out of Michigan. He also writes every day at his own blog, the Tim Sackett Project. Weirdly, he’s known as an expert in workplace hugging, which was kind of cool years ago, but now seems painfully creepy, but we still love him and he’s fairly harmless. Tim is also on the board of the Association of Talent Acquisition Professionals (ATAP), lifetime Michigan State Spartan fan, husband to a Hall of Fame wife, 3 sons, and his best friend Scout. He also wrote a book with SHRM called The Talent Fix, you can find it on Amazon.
